How To Take A Screenshot On Your Computer Using Windows 8

When I need to learn something, of course, I Google it. I needed to take screenshots of pages on my computer for a blog post that I was configuring. I went to Google and found some websites that detailed how to do this. Well, the first one I clicked on, said to hold down your Windows button and the PRTSCN button at the same time. Well, I do not have that button, so I held down the End button that said PRTSC. The site said the screen would go dark and that was your computer taking the picture. Umm, no that did not work. I visited other sites and basically they said to take a screenshot the same way. I was frustrated, to say the least. I started reading through comments and I found a comment that shared how they had to take a screenshot.

Hold down, the Windows button (the button with the four squares) and at the same time hold down the FN button. My FN button is located right next to the Windows button.

windows 8 keyboard
Then, press the End, PRTSC button.

windows 8 keyboard

Your computer screen will dim and the shot is taken.
The picture you just took is then sent to your pictures file. A new file is created. This file is labeled, screenshots.
That is it...you are done.

If your computer is different and you need to take a screenshot using a different method, please let us know in the comments below. People read the comment section and your response may help someone take a screenshot.

Gluten Free Vegetarian Sloppy Joes

I have had this recipe in my "to do" file for a while now. I do not remember where I discovered this crock pot recipe, more than likely Pinterest. I am going to write out the ingredients for the recipe, because while I did add in the ingredients, I did not follow the cooking instructions. Therein lies the reason I prefer to cook with my crock pot, no cooking involved, just throw it all in the pot and forget it....sounds like an ad.

Gluten Free, Milk Chocolate Dump Cake

I have previously shared with you how cooking is not my forte. Ok, really it is not my anything. Recently, I met a friend on Instagram  +Meredith Lewis, who has a blog, A Little of This and That. On her blog, she posts the most amazing pictures of her cooking and shares her recipes. As I was looking through her posts, can you say cyber stalk, I fell in love with her German Chocolate Dump Cake and wanted to try making this myself. Fingers crossed, this could be a disaster.

Gluten free chocolate cake

Just look at this yumminess. (Yes, it is a word.) This cake was so easy and quick to make and then bake. Here is her recipe:
German Chocolate box mix
1 cup of coconut
1 cup of pecans, chopped
1 stick of butter (softened)
2 cups of powered sugar
1 eight ounce block of cream cheese (softened)

Heat your oven to 350 degrees. In a 9x13 pan, spray a little non-stick spray. Then put the coconut and pecans on the bottom. Mix the cake mix according to the instructions, then pour over the pecans and coconut. Using a mixer, mix together the softened butter, 2 cups of the powered sugar and the softened cream cheese until it is nice and creamy smooth. Put in several spoonfuls (Meredith broke it up into 12 spoonfuls) around the cake batter and take the spoon and swirl it in. Place in oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

I substituted a Gluten free cake mix for the German Chocolate cake mix. I have used this mix before and have had good results. This time was no exception. I followed the instructions.

Mixed everything together and placed it in the cake pan. I was very excited to use my whisk attachment on my mixer.

Doesn't this look good enough to just jump in and swim in the creaminess. Stop it. I swirled this mixture into the cake mix. This was the the finished cake, just before I put it in the oven.

I baked the cake for 55 minutes.
This is a picture of a slice of the cake with a smidgen of powered sugar sprinkled on top.

The gluten free version of the recipe is not as fluffy, the gluten free cake has a more dense texture. This did not effect the end results of the recipe at all. I was telling my handsome husband that this cake tastes like a piece of cake that is served at a high classed restaurant. It was so good. And I made it.

Please check out +Meredith Lewis.
Let me know in the comments below if you try this cake. Or maybe you can suggest some additions to the recipe. Let me know.

How To Change Your Status From A "No-Reply Blogger" In A Few Easy Steps

I am a guest poster on IBA, International Bloggers Association. I wanted to share with you what I discovered about being a no-reply blogger. When you comment on a blog post, your email is not attached to the comment. When this happens the writer who replies to your comment has no place to send their reply to you. This occurs because you have not checked a box in the blogger profile section in the blog setup. In a few short steps I will show you what steps to take to correct this no-reply situation.

Organizing Not Only In Your Home, But In Your Backyard As Well

Since January, I have shared with you how I have worked in my home and organized my kitchen and closets. I gathered information from fellow bloggers and got busy.

Well, since we have had such beautiful weather, I no longer want to be inside. Living in an area of the country that only has a limited amount of warmer days, I want to enjoy the fresh air as much as possible. So, I took a look around my back yard and went to work cleaning areas of the yard that needed some attention.

Let me just point out that this has been an on going process. This was not a "fix it in one day" endeavor. We have a cement patio off of the garage. At the end of the patio, we had acquired some brush from last fall and this spring that we had let accumulate. My handsome husband helped me burn the branches and sticks.

This is a photograph of the finished area by the patio.

This is a "before" picture, so to speak, of the brush that we had accumulated over the seasons.
before the yard work

Yesterday, I started cleaning up the ground. I used a 3 pronged hand tool and scraped together all of the dead grass and old weeds. I used my handsome husbands weed eater and cleaned up along the edge of the future flower bed.

Last fall, I picked up a canister of seeds on a clearance end cap. I paid $1.00 for the canister. I sprinkled these seeds on my prepared flower bed. Then, I lightly sprinkled some potting soil over the top of the seeds. I saturated the future flowers with water. I used a soaking wand on the end of the garden hose. This prevented the seeds from floating away.

This morning I saturated the ground again. I am very pleased with the results after the hard work that was put into cleaning up this area of the yard.
I will be excited to see what seeds take root and bloom in the upcoming weeks. If you follow me on Instagram, shameless plug, I post pictures of flowers that I have purchased recently. I want to thank everyone who writes posts and shares parts of their lives. Before I started blogging, I never would have attempted to try something like this. Your posts help me to jump out of my comfort zone and try new experiences. I am so thankful that I have an outlet that lets me express what I have learned from others and meet new people.

I have another corner of my backyard that I am currently working on. In a later post, I will let you know what I have been working on back there.
Please let me know what are some of your favorite flowers in you flower beds in the comments below.
