Homemade Dryer Sheets With A T-shirt and Essential Oils

After making and using my own laundry detergent and fabric softener, I needed to add dryer sheets to my list of natural, and no-chemical laundry essentials. To make these dryer sheets, you will need an old t-shirt and your favorite essential oil fragrance. I chose Sweet Orange essential oil, because that is my handsome husbands favorite scent.

Cut the t-shirt into squares approximately 5 inches by 5 inches.

Add 3 to 5 drops of your preferred essential oil. (warning-oils are flammable) There are many different scents of essential oils. Plus, you can play with the fragrances and mix and match oils to create your own scent.

Toss this home made dryer sheet into your dryer. The dryer sheets can be used once and the next time you are ready to use it, add 3 to 5 more drops. You will be able to use the dryer sheet approximately 4 times in the dryer. Then launder as usual and repeat the process of adding your essential oil.

Even though you can buy inexpensive dryer sheets at any dollar store, making your own dryer sheets cost pennies on the dollar to make. Home made dryer sheets are safer for your dryer. There are no harmful chemicals that cling to your lint trap. Also, dryer sheets never decompose in landfills.

While I was studying how to make dryer sheets, I came across a study of the harmful chemicals that are in commercial dryer sheets.

7 toxic chemicals commercial in dryer sheet

These chemicals disrupt the central nervous system and are known carcinogenics. Yes, they may smell wonderful, but they are very toxic. So the next time you take a deep breathe in because you think the dryer is putting out a wonderful smell, don't, you are breathing toxic chemicals.

Let me know in the comments below, what are your favorite home made dryer sheet scents.

Have a blessed day!
